Hi Guys,
I did the conversion because, as I approached 80 (happening in 7 & 1/2 months)
taking care of the diesel was too much work.
Unexpected benefits to going electric has been, the precise control I now have when docking, the silence
under way, the cleanliness in the engine compartment, the total lack of preparation prior to getting
underway, and the absence of diesel odors.
When people bring up “range anxiety,” I point out it’s a sailing AUXILIARY. The main means of
propulsion is the wind, although I believe that I have a range in excess of 20 miles. I can’t confirm the
range because I have never run out of electricity while cruising under power, including a round trip of
about 20 miles which according to the instrumentation showed plenty of juice left in the batteries.
